Block kicks off £80m flats facelift

From the Halesowen News, first published Friday 24th Nov 2006.

An £80m facelift for high rise blocks in Sandwell has been kick-started in Oldbury.

Lawrence Court was the first of 44 borough blocks to receive a much-needed lick of paint.

The five-year refurbishment programme is being delivered by a partnership involving Sandwell Homes, Sandwell MBC's Urban Design team and various building contractors. Tenants' views have been taken into account throughout the process, including decisions on products and materials used in their home.

Depending on their structural condition and improvement requirements, work that may be carried out includes roof improvements, window replacements, new enlarged bin chutes, new doors, lift refurbishment, external cladding, balcony improvements and new entry systems.

John Clayton, investment director for Sandwell Homes, said: "This is a significant project which will improve our properties and more importantly improve the quality of life for our tenants."
