Sandwell Council leader Cllr Bill Thomas praised a landfill operator for taking action to prevent swarms of flies plaguing a landfill site in Rowley Regis.
He vowed the council will continue to closely monitor the situation around the Edwin Richards landfill site in the town. People living near have been complaining about the site for over a decade saying flies bred on waste at the site had forced them to keep their doors and windows closed during hot weather.
But Cllr Thomas said he has not received a single complaint this summer.
Site operators Waste Recycling Group has now taken up the findings of a detailed report from pest control expert Professor Moray Anderson.
Cllr Thomas said: "Without tempting providence we have had a relatively fly-free summer which has been of great benefit to local residents. I congratulate the company for implementing the proposals."
